THE TRANSIT (GOCHAR) OF JUPITER (GURU) IN 2007-2008

Posted by Anurag Sharma on October 7, 2007

Guru/ Jupiter is the greatest benefic planet in the zodiac and in any nativity represents the presence of divinity. While the phenomenon of Gochar of various planets is stated to be studied from the position of the Moon/ Chandra in the radix, there are very useful principles that should be applied from the Lagna as well as the Arudha Lagna. The transits from the natal Moon are advised static and well-recorded results and function according to the mitigating and countering effects of Vedha/ obstruction of various other planets in transit. These can be studied from any standard text on the subject.

In the instant essay, the transit of Guru shall be briefly judged from the Lagna and the Arudha Lagna. Some ways of judging this transit shall be stated hereinbelow. Guru transits in Vrishchik/ Scorpio Rashi till November 22, 2007 and shall move to Dhanu/ Sagittarius Rashi at about 4:14 AM on that date. In this Rashi and the next Guru would be in friendly and own/ Moolatrikona Rashi respectively.

If Scorpio should house your Arudha Lagna, this transit can elevate the image but only after revealing the Satya/ truth of the image as it exists. This means that the vulnerabilities and pitfalls associated with the image as it exists at the present time shall be exposed and then Guru shall become auspicious for the manifest existence and the way the native is perceived. One of the most important fallouts of the transit of the benefic Jupiter is that of judging its impact on the Upapada Lagna. This latter is gleaned to determine the manifest features of the marriage. Whenever Guru has Rashi Drishti on the 2nd House from the Upapada Lagna, and/ or on the 2nd Lord from the Upapada Lagna it can be a very good time to tie the knot. So, for those with the Upapada Lagna in Tula Rashi this is an auspicious time to tie the knot before Guru moves to Dhanu. Likewise for those with the Upapada Lagna in Meena Rashi as Guru aspects Mesha/ Aries with Rashi Drishti.

Even the Graha Drishti of the Guru to the said places is sufficient provided Jupiter is strongly placed in the natal chart. Graha Drishti embodies the desire/ Ichcha Shakti of the Graha while Rashi Drishti shows manifest circumstances. The transit principle of Jupiter is used like a yearly Muhurta principle for isolating the most auspicious year for marriage, having already considered the Naisargika Dasha suitability along with the more standard tools like Vimshottari Dasha in Rashi Chakra and Navamsha Chakra and Narayan Dasha in the two charts for both the prospective groom and the bride.

If Guru Mahadasha in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme is running for a native with Vrishchik Arudha Lagna and the Mahadasha is auspicious for the rising Lagna, the Gochar in the Arudha Lagna can pave the way for rise in society and the manner in which the native is perceived. Similarly, predictions of a positive nature can be made for other Arudha Padas.

For instance, if the Rajyapada/ A10 were to be in Vrishchik, ceteris paribus one might say, that the research potentials of the tangible features of work would rise, or perhaps occult insights would deepen, only after having exposed the weaker aspects of the same. The Lagna taken from any reference is a Kendra/ Quadrant and especially from Arudha Padas Guru gives very fine results in these places. The principle of the transit in the 9th House from the Arudha Lagna, and other Arudha Padas, does not apply to Guru. Guru is an exception. This should be understood carefully as explained below.

The 9th House from the Arudha Lagna is a Tamasic or destructive house despite the fact that the 9th from Lagna is the most auspicious house in the Rashi Chakra. Having said that, it ought to be noted the 9th House from the Arudha Lagna will yield the greatest material upliftment for the image and visible reality. It is destructive only in the sense that it makes the native try to compete and benefit itself. The gentle and selfless Guru does not give good results here only in Gochar. Natally, it will still lift the image of the Jatak through Sattwic means.

For Vrishchik Lagna, Guru is an outright functional benefic and if it is the Dashanath in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme or in any other conditional Dasha of Parashar, its transit in the Lagna can be good, especially of Guru is powerful in the nativity. Similar results can be had for natives with Simha Lagna, as Guru is the 5th and 8th Lord. If it is the Dashanath and the results of its 5th House lordship dominate in the Rashi Chakra, either by placement in the 5th house itself or being placed in an even Rashi in the horoscope, the transit can be favourable in the 4th House.

It will impart greater impulse to the domestic environment, immovable assets, family life, vehicles and learning. For Mesha Lagna natives, Guru is the 9th and 12th Lord and is benefic. In Gochar in the 8th House it can give gains from speculation and investment as too from worthy occult and spiritual circles. Even if Guru is not a functional benefic for the rising Lagna, say for Vrishabh/ Taurus Lagna, it is still the greatest natural benefic and in the 7th House can help matters marital and those to do with personal interaction and partnership.

Regarding the role Guru plays in the Kendradhipati Dosha for Mithun and Kanya Lagna, the Dosha will manifest only if Guru is afflicted. If it is placed in the 7th House itself, such natives rise after marriage and Hamsa Yoga is formed. If there is gross affliction then as the Badhak Graha carrying the blemish of the Kendradhipati Dosha can give very bad results. For Kanya Lagna, if natal Guru is placed in Vrishchik and if it is the Mahadasha lord, this Gochar can be troublesome as Guru in the radix would be in the Marana Karaka Sthana and will give adverse results for marital prospects and partnership. For Karka/ Cancer Lagna, this is a good transit for an auspicious planet and progeny, accruals from the investment portfolio and association with the highly placed can happen.

For Tula Lagna, Guru does not play a good role according to Parashar as it lords the malefic 3rd and 6th Houses. Its Gochar in the 2nd House can further interaction with Jyotishis and those who deal with the future as the 2nd is a Panaphara Bhava. For those with Dhanu Lagna, the Gochar post November, 2007 would be far more fruitful as the Lagna Lord would be in Gochar in Lagna. This would specifically take care of overall life issues if Guru is activated in Mahadasha or Antardasha in some Dasha scheme.

For Kumbha Lagna, Guru plays a role akin to Kubera, the lord of wealth, despite the fact that it is a functional malefic being the 11th Lord for the chart. In the 11th House, it can augment gains while after November, 2007 it can fuel expenditure on Sattwic matters, investments to elevate wealth, spending on spiritual or religious items and ceremonies. For Meena Lagna, as Guru is the Lagna Lord in the 9th House in Gochar, many people have been found to be performing Havans and generally coming closer to their spiritual roots. Even when Guru transits to Sagittarius, it would be strongly placed in the 10th House and for those with Amala Yoga, the working skills would be sharply honed.

After November 22, 2007 Guru will transit in Dhanu Rashi which is its Moolatrikona Rashi. Guru is at work here. Lawyers, judges, astrologers, priests, spiritualists, religious thinkers and philosophers can attain special success. For nativities running Guru Dasha or having a prominent Guru placed in Narayan Dasha Rashi or in Kendra therefrom, this can be a prominent Gochar. All the functional and active attributes of the planet can undergo deep renewal in the chart. For natives with Guru in Dhanu Rashi itself, prominently placed, Guru will be transiting over its natal position. This is a highly auspicious transit and can bring the Grace of God and the divine nectar of immortal Jnana. If the Mantra Pada/ A5/ the Arudha Pada of the 5th House is associated with benefic planets then the native may receive Mantra from a Shiksha or Diksha Guru if transit Guru aspects the A5 with Rashi Drishti or conjoins the same in Gochar.

For such natives, they may come to important metaphysical understandings about themselves and the world around them through subjects and musings of their choice even if they are not particularly inclined to avail of the spiritual gems of India. Guru indicates the highest flights of human thought and the most elevated thinking: great philosophical insights in Vedanta or those relating to the world as one large family (Vasudaiva Kutumbakam) with huge differences and yet a fundamental unity can accrue.

As mentioned elsewhere on this website, when the Gochar of planets is being evaluated to see which natal Yogas and Dashas shall crystallize to yield what influences, the knowledge from the esoteric Chandra Kala Nadi must be utilized. The transit Moon and Sun either atop Arudha Padas or in the 7th House or in Trikona from them shall fructify matters related to them. For example, for events pertaining to the actual vehicle, or home see the above stated Gochar from the Matri Arudha/ A4.

For developments relating to work, see the Gochar from the Rajyapada/ A10. The other matters are to be similarly seen from other Arudha Padas. If other features such as the ending of highly malefic Moola Dashas involved with Curses in the chart and with the 8th House of the Nija Dosha are ending, then this benefic Gochar of Guru into Dhanu Rashi can portend a reaping of the rich harvest of Sattwa, patience and burning away the old bad Karma. Jupiter gives without being asked and as the Karaka for the imperceptible Akash Tattwa or ethereal element it is never perceived while it is doing the job of enriching life, both materially and spiritually.

For Agni Tattwa Rashis like Mesha, Simha and Dhanu the Gochar of Guru in Dhanu/ Sagittarius shall be quite auspicious. For Karka/ Cancer Lagna, it can appease inimical tendencies in life if the natal 6th House is afflicted but not in an extreme fashion. For the Prithvi Tattwa Rashis, the Gochar is not adverse but will open avenues for spiritual abundance, home and foreign travel or visits to the Ashram of the Guru respectively for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn Lagnas.

For the other Jala Tattwa Lagnas like Vrishchik and Meena, the Gochar is auspicious for family, wealth and movable goods (Scorpio) and for Meena (self and self specifically from the viewpoint of work).

For Vayu Tattwa Lagnas, Mithun may realize how lucky they are to have the spouse they do, while Kumbha/ Aquarius will see an upsurge in the quality of friends and gains. The fulfillment of desires and an overall optimism may also infuse proceedings. For Tula Lagna, it is a more ordinary Gochar of Guru in Dhanu as the Graha feels uncomfortable with the matrix of desire in Marana Karaka Sthana in the 3rd Bhava from the Lagna.

The divine grace of Guru can also offset some of the pressures of evil transits of Rahu and the pressures of Shani though not necessarily in the same areas that are afflicted by the latter malefics. Though Guru will never ask us, let us pay our regards and prayers to this great Graha, an unassuming but tremendous and unconditional boon to mankind.

FUTURE ASTROLOGICAL PATTERNS FOR 2007

Posted by Anurag Sharma on October 4, 2007

Some astrological estimate can be arrived at for a given year based on transits for that year, especially of certain slower Grahas which yield more discernible effects. Usually periodicals, newspapers and glossies come out with ‘forecasts’ and these appear to be tentatively based on the Sun signs and that too as arrived in the framework of the Western Zodiac. The Western Zodiac might not really be astronomically correct.

Therefore, to give a brief but more astrologically authentic glimpse to readers, a very basic look at the year ahead is given below. This is based primarily on the Janma/ Chandra Rashi, where the Moon is placed in the natal Rashi Chakra. If you do not know it, do not despair. This can be applied to the natal Sun sign as well, but as calculated in the Indian system. If you do not know your Hindu/ Vedic Sun sign, still do not despair. (Have you witnessed so much optimism in recent times?) A simple method is to move one sign back from your so-called Western Sun sign. Say, you are Gemini by the Western Method, you should go more by the description for Taurus, or you can read both.

The description is also equally valid for the Lagna and the Arudha Lagna if you should know these signs. If you do not, refer to the paragraph above, especially about not despairing.

The fact of the matter is that specific annual propensities are only doubtlessly enunciated and explained by the Gochar/ transit when the natal horoscope is evaluated first and the annual charts are also studied subsequently. Having said that, the broad based transit influences for 2007 are based in authentic Jyotish principles and will hold true to whatever extent witnessed by a specific nativity. It is in that light that they must be read.

Mesha/ Aries: As the year starts the lord of this sign is placed with Jupiter in its own sign Scorpio and this is an auspicious Yoga. This can bring a forthright tenor to the beginning of the year, wisdom, clarity of thought and material abundance. It can also bring speculation and sudden events. The transit Moon is exalted in the 2nd House as the 4th Lord indicating a happy atmosphere at home at the beginning of 2007. Saturn and Rahu are both not problematic for finances at the beginning of the year though the Chitta/ inner peace can suffer during the year. As Shani will come back to the 4th House, this can alter the thinking making it somewhat reluctant and pressured. If career and the flow of life feels impeded Saturn remedies could help. Recourse and remedy lies in personal effort towards greater understanding, spirituality, remedial measures and the occult.

Vrishabh/ Taurus: The exalted Moon tenants your Rashi at the beginning of the year bringing a psychological feel-good effect largely stemming from optimistic following the plans and desires. The spouse will be a pillar of support throughout the year and will consistently offer sage advice and auspiciousness. This is important as the advice and association with the worthy spouse in personal life, and with partners of good intent in business life, breaks the adverse Yoga of uncontrolled passions and desires. Guard against mental overwork and anxieties and blood complaints as this armour is being broken by the initial Shani-Ketu Yoga. This will soon dissipate in January, so only those with these symptoms need to take note.

Throughout the year, Saturn gives a lot of drive and Parakrama to overcome obstacles. The Lagna Lord Shukra is in the 9th House generating Bhagya Yoga for auspiciousness, luck and fortune.

Mithun/ Gemini: For those with Arudha Lagna in Mithun Rashi, this can be a time to reap Rajayoga and material upliftment if the same is promised by the natal horoscope. The year can be a crowning glory as far as professional and societal attainments are concerned. For those who do not have ripe and favorable Karma waiting, Saturn can bring bad and irregular meals. Please guard against a careless lifestyle, dissipating accumulated wealth, over-indulgence in junk food and drink and the like. Pay attention to the marriage and personal interaction. Vitality may be low at the beginning of the year and carelessness and not paying attention to important things can create fissures. The trials and mental lessons of the past 7 years are coming to fruition now. Lord Shani is ending his Sade-Sati for this Chandra Rashi and this is the time of gear up to enrich the personality to the most as Saturn prepares to leave. It has been a time of continual challenges and you can expect to breathe easier after late July, 2007.

Karka/ Cancer: People with Karka Rashi are right in the midst of their Sade-Sati and have been feeling the white-hot phase of their past Karma coming back to educate them, enlarge the personality and to outgrow that which is no longer needed. The focus will shift from acutely personal factors to finances and career matters after July. Lack of adequate social opportunity and participation may be challenging facets and remedial measures for the tests that confront the native ought to be undertaken. This is especially so because Rahu can bring some events not really contemplated due to its location in the 8th House. Those with Karka Arudha Lagna or Lagna in Karka Rashi can also note these. Jupiter promises access to correct Mantra and spiritual sources. It can also bring help from those placed in powerful positions.

Simha/ Leo: For those with Arudha Lagna in Simha, the placement of Ketu in Lagna can bring spiritual impulses and challenges in the social arena. Till July 24, 2007 especially these indications can be quite stressful as Saturn conjoins Ketu, the node robbing the mind of its nectar. The Sade-Sati for this Chandra Rashi has also been going on and can be expected to intensify after July, 2007. Suitable precautionary measures ought to be taken to guard against the trials imposed by their own Karma and brought by the transit of Shani. For this Lagna and Arudha Lagna, this is also a Kantak Shani period even if Sade-Sati is not going on in their charts and social and career issues with financial pressures might be felt. The home can be a source of succor and comfort as it is blessed by Jupiter.

Kanya/ Virgo: The sudden seriousness and pressures in life have been brought by the entry of Shani in Simha Rashi. These indications can be alleviated till July, 2007 as Saturn will retrograde back into Cancer. It is best to take a pointer from the impulses and experiences if these past couple of months to gear up psychologically for the social, emotional and financial issues that might crop up based on the Yogas in the natal chart. Displacement, character concerns and issues of intimacy, marriage and personal life might crop up. Once again, for these Rashis under the Karmic scrutiny of Shani, it is best if the natives can guard themselves by appropriate remedial measures and propitiating Shani.Rahu in the 6th will give a lot of resilience.

Tula/ Libra: Natives with their Arudha Lagna falling in this Rashi and those whose radix shows that this is a time for the fructification, can expect Bhoga Marga to come their way. Success in this year on social, material and financial fronts is quite likely with this transit of Rahu in Trikona. Kantak Shani has been going on for the past two years and will continue till July so the reading is altered to that extent. The New Year starts with Chandra in the Marana Karaka Sthana so wrong decisions in career and incorrect ways of working should be guarded against. With foresight and sanity these severe pitfalls can be avoided as Chandra is exalted in the 8th House. This is especially so as Guru gives Argala to Lagna bringing inputs that give good advice, good food and sensible actions as far as they pertain to movable assets.

Vrishchik/ Scorpio: The first half of the year will be auspicious. If people with this Lagna are running the Vimshottari Dasha of a well-placed Guru, the health can improve greatly. Go for that change in personal health regime now. Medication and medical attention will bring good results in this period. Overall life can be infused with positives. These personal factors ought to be fully used to fight doubt, fears and suspicions in the heart, at home and in the domestic environment. Watch these significations closely and as soon as they threaten to arrive, examine them with wisdom and knowledge to see of they are even worthy of attention or have just come to torment the mind. The latter half of the year can bring work related pressures and financial issues but these can be mitigated by living with Brihaspati rather than the hysteria of Rahu.

Dhanu/ Sagittarius: Foreign angles and overcoming the lemons that have been handed form the themes for the year. Associating with overseas contacts can yield a rich harvest. The mind and emotional health can appear to break the shackles of that which appears to be destined. Desires are fine in incarnate life but these can be tempered with a quiet sense of satisfaction when success is attained rather than rushing headlong blindly into the next venture without enjoying what one has achieved. Otherwise beauty and aesthetic focus starts the year off.

Makar/ Capricorn: Just as for Dhanu natives, and even more so, for Makar, especially for those running Shukra Dasha for Makar Lagna, this can be an excellent month overall. All the abundance of Shukra, luxuries, conveyances, those decorative changes you’ve been planning can all fall into place now. If you’ve been thinking on these lines, this is the ideal time to go and make these changes. Just as these past couple of months have been problematic, and they herald similar troubles after July, 2007 so you can use the Venusian things early in the year. Kantak Shani runs in the chart after July and career may be affected due to sudden events. Guard against this and undertake remedial measures if things get oppressive. Rahu can give compulsive eating problems so if you are anorexic or suffer from bulimia, be very careful. Alcohol consumers should watch their drinks and generally those with psychological vulnerabilities regarding substance abuse should be very cautious of these weaknesses. If they are trying to overcome these or the smoking habit, a relapse can occur unless they are careful. Group therapies, associating with tradition and those in the know of esoteric secrets can be beneficial. Friends can also help provided they are Sattwic, heavy and phlegmatic.

Kumbha/ Aquarius: This can prove to be one of the best years in recent times if the natal chart should show and support this conclusion. For people with Arudha Lagna in this Rashi, these indications are heightened. Saturn moves into a good position till July when marriage and partners can pose areas of concern. Career and work areas are excellent and starting with sheer confidence and authentic ambition, the year can mature into a period that brings fame and appreciation in work. It’s a happy home as the year starts and the idea ought to be to keep it that way when questions are asked later in the year in this area. If the Arudha Lagna is tenanted by this Rashi, then work can prove to be a life area that will bring fame and rise in society.

Meena/ Pisces: Basically this year will prove to be quite lucky and the fortune will come due to the decisions taken by the self, therefore, the joyous feelings would be accompanied by reality which will only accentuate the happiness. Power and association with the highly placed, as too Karma Yoga with a sense of direction and purpose starts the year. Avoid falsehood as Jupiter will expose this if this Rashi tenants the Arudha Lagna. Saturn transits are not adverse for this Rashi and Rahu can cause undesirable expenditure; but then you might be very attached to what

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS

Posted by Anurag Sharma on December 23, 2006

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, or even otherwise, without there being a quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis. Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. This is a cursory look at these factors to quell some of this basic curiosity and perhaps in turn to fuel a bit more of it, so that the search may take one to higher ground. Vicious circle isn’t it.

Mesha/ Aries Lagna: The head of the Kalapurusha. The Royal sign. Ruled by the fiery Mars, lording the 8th House also. Sudden changes in life are implicit but would also depend on the placement of the 8th co-Lord Ketu. Yes, Ketu also lords Scorpio. Jupiter is also a good planet, ruling Bhagya and foreign travel. Red Coral can be worn. So can the Ruby, indicative of Surya, the 5th Lord of the future of the Jatak. Jupiter’s Pushyaraga/ Pukhraj can also be worn. Avoid Diamond as Shukra is a Maraka for the Lagna and avoid any of these Ratnas given above if the planets indicated are placed in strength in the 3rd or 6th Houses from the Arudha Lagna. Unless you want to give everything up and head to the forest! Emerald, generally no no, as Budh is a functional malefic, being the 3rd and 6th Lord for all you fiery, headstrong and ambitious folk.

Vrishabh/ Taurus Lagna: The pleasure loving. Ruled by Shukra, who also rules the 6th House of enemies. Diamond can be worn save for the conditions laid down in Aries above. Shani is the Yogakaraka but also the Badhak Lord. Devi worship might become important to get over the struggle which appears destined. Blue Sapphire is possible but I do not recommend this stone ever. If you want to appease Lord Shani, do it differently. Emerald is a good choice as Mercury rules the 2nd and 5th. Eloquence can be aplenty if this Graha is well placed. Quite conservative and focused on finances. The sturdy and powerful Bull. Avoid Pukhraj unless Rahu is placed in the 9th House. Likewise for the pearl as the Moon is the functionally malefic 3rd Lord of the chart.

Mithun/ Gemini Lagna: Communication, writing, information and Mercurial worlds are dominant. Governed by Mercury. Mercury also rules the 4th House and, please, it does NOT carry the Kendradhipati Dosha. Just like you can’t blame yourself for owning your personality (at least not usually, I hope), please afford the same privilege to Budh. Guru is the Badhak, so if it is not afflicted and is well-placed, obstacles that come from the Badhak shall not come. Mars is a bad planet and Red Coral is best avoided. Emerald is safe. Venus is also a good planet, ruling the 5th: a Lakshmi Sthana and the basically neutral 12th House. Diamond is also a fair possibility. Take care of that nervous system. Even if Mars signifies it, it is your own nervous system and in the Dasha of Budh guard against excessive thought. Shani-Surya Yoga in a Dusthana can give an astounding Vipreeta Raja Yoga at times.

Karka/ Cancer Lagna: Receptive, like Chandra who lords the Lagna. The pearl is a good gem to wear. Mars is a Yogakaraka and can give rise on its own. It can also give Vipreeta Raja Yoga if placed in a Dusthana or afflicted but the significations of conjoining planet will be stressed. Shukra is the Badhak and is also a functional malefic. Guru lords the Bhagya but also the 6th House, therefore it is a mixed planet for this Lagna. Rahu is the 8th Lord and can become even more diabolical in this Lagna. Shani is equally problematic except if it is placed in Lagna where it gives Simhasan Yoga. It will give rise. As in Lagna it will be in Marana Karaka Sthana and will damage the 7th and 8th Houses, which it lords. Therefore, people with this placement can experience difficulties in marriage or in getting married.

Simha/ Leo Lagna: Another royal sign. Ruled by the Sun itself. Pride, authority, inability to ask for favours. Ruby can be worn. Jupiter lords the 5th but also the 8th. The Dasha of Guru can transform life. Mars is again Yogakaraka but also the Badhak. As it rules the 9th House, there may be conflict and struggle at the level of luck. Surya/ Shiva must be propitiated. This can work for lawyers as they thrive on conflict and litigation. Still, it might be a good idea to ease one’s own life path. Even lawyers are entitled to that. The Moon is the 12th Lord and if afflicted or if it is an Amavasya birth, the mind can become vulnerable to acute suffering. Mercury, though malefic is like Kubera for the chart and can bring wealth if associated with the Arudha Lagna. Shani is malefic for the Lagna.

Virgo/ Kanya Lagna: Mercury again. The plea of the whole world is, perfection is alright to strive for, but is not to be found in existence. So, do keep that in mind. Very finicky. Emerald is again a good idea and Venus is a good planet, so the diamond is also a good gem. Saturn is a mixed planet as it lords the 5th and 6th but Rahu, lording Kumbha is the malefic 6th Lord. Mars is the most malefic planet and can bring adversity in its Dasha unless well placed in Vipreeta Raja Yoga. In Lagna, it can bring fiery issues. There is this film called Anger Management.

Tula/ Libra Lagna: Private sector, social focus, love, attraction and other areas ruled by Shukra. Shukra is also the 8th Lord so the potential for changes in life is implicit. Jupiter is a functional malefic so the gemstone should not be lightly worn. Shani is Yogakaraka and can bring rise on its own. In a Dusthana it can give Vipreeta Raja Yoga. Mercury rules Bhagya so emerald is also a good choice but avoidable for the newly married, always. Avoid the red coral as Mars is Maraka.

Vrishchik/ Scorpio Lagna: Lorded by both Mars and Ketu. Guru is very auspicious, ruling the 2nd and the 5th Houses. Mercury is a functional malefic. Shani remains a malefic. Venus is a Maraka. Sun is a good planet, ruling Karma. The Moon is also a benefic for the Lagna, ruling luck itself. The pearl, Ruby and Red Coral can be choices for this Lagna. These people can be pre-disposed to research and occult study and the Guru-Mangal Yoga can be especially fruitful.

Dhanu/ Sagittarius Lagna: Lorded by Guru. Pushyaraga is an automatic choice. Mars is also a good choice, being the 5th Lord. The sign rules teachers, lawyers and finance professionals. The Sun rules Bhagya and the Ruby is a good choice along with the red coral. Mercury is a Badhak planet and also carries the Kendradhipati Dosha; if it is afflicted, it can cause trouble. Shukra is also a functional malefic lording the 6th and the 11th Houses and can punish.

Makar/ Capricorn Lagna: Lorded by Shani. Pragmatic and practical people, good with managerial and functional aspects of life. Venus is the Yogakaraka and diamond is a good choice. Jupiter is a malefic for this Lagna. Mercury, though the 6th Lord is also the 9th Lord and is a bit of a mixed planet. Mars is not bad as it gets exalted in the Lagna and only Ketu can truly pose trouble for the chart. Guru, even if debilitated can give Rajayoga provided Shani is placed in strength. Not everything in life comes without a price, if at all, so this placement can pose troubles to siblings if Guru is Neecha in Lagna.

Kumbha/ Aquarius Lagna: Lorded by both Shani and Rahu. Philosophical, linked with groups, democratic. This sign is so expansive, though malefic, that Guru, the most benefic planet gives results akin to exaltation. Shukra is Yogakaraka and gives excellent results. The diamond or a substitute like Zircon is a good choice for this Lagna. Mercury is the 5th and 8th Lord is a favorable planet but can also bring sudden adversity and transformation. Jupiter can be a wealth planet for this Lagna as it lords the 2nd and the 11th Houses for the chart. An interesting pint to note here is that despite Rahu’s bad reputation, it can crown the native with success when it transits the trines to the Arudha Lagna. It is opposite for the same transit of Ketu.

Meena/ Pisces Lagna: The sign of release, final emancipation. The Rashi of the Rishis. Ruled by Brihaspati. Those with Guru in Lagna have the Hamsa Mahapurusha Yoga. Very pious and spiritual people. Mars is also a very favorable and both Pushyaraga and the Moonga/ Red Coral is also a good choice. Shukra/ Venus lords the 3rd and 8th Lord and can bring trials, so the diamond is best avoided, generally speaking. The Moon is an auspicious Graha for this Lagna.
